Abstract

|
Transrectal ultrasonography has been introduced to evaluate lower genitourinary tract. We performed transrectal ultrasonography in 10 normal controls and 58 cases of urinary stress incontinence in order to evaluate the efficacy of transrectal
ultrasonography in urinary stress incontinence, Transrectal ultrasonic evaluation of the bladder base at rest and on maximal straining was performed in left decubitus position with the hips flexed. Our diagnostic criteria of urinary stress
incontinence
with transrectal ultrasonography were >149.6˚of posterior urethrovesical angle (sensitivity 79%, specificity 80%), >1.02㎝ drop of bladder neck (sensitivity 97%, specificity 70%), and >0.14㎝ openig of bladder neck (sensitivity 83%, specificity
90%).
We conclude that the transrectal ultrasonography can replace chain cystourethrography in the diagnosis of urinary stress incontinence.
